We often receive emails and calls asking for more information about our hotel. To make it easier and provide you with immediate answers and save you some time, we have compiled a list of the most common questions and their answers.
We hope this will be helpful. If you have a question and can’t find your answer here, please don’t hesitate to email or call us, we will be very happy to assist you.
Is the hotel near public transportation?
The C and E subways are located on 8th Avenue and 23rd Street (one block from the hotel).
The 1 subway line is on Broadway and 23rd Street (a five minute walk).
The #11 bus goes uptown on 10th Avenue and downtown on 9th Avenue.
The M23-SBS bus goes crosstown on 23rd Street (on this route you pay for your ride with your Metrocard at the machine on the street before boarding)
Is there parking at the Colonial House Inn?
If you are driving, there is some limited street parking in our neighborhood. If you find a good parking space in the numbered streets (for example, 21st, 22nd streets), the parking is free but please read the signs carefully as the streets are cleaned twice a week and the cars must be moving during street cleaning hours. Street cleaning may be suspended due to holidays or weather (you can call us the day before you arrive to check). Some parking spaces on the streets may be reserved for commercial vehicles only and some do not allow parking parking during daytime hours. On the avenues around the hotel (for example, 8th Avenue or 9th Avenue, etc.) you will have to pay the parking machine by the hour (or minutes). Parking machines are available on every block and accept credit cards or cash. Again, please read the signs carefully and make sure not to park in front of a fire hydrant (must be 15 feet away from it), or in a Commercial Use Only spot. If you prefer to use a garage, there is one on 22nd Street between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue on your left after you cross 8th Avenue.
Is breakfast included in the room rate?
YES, breakfast is included in the price. Our breakfast is open from 7:00am-10:00am. We also have complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby throughout the day.
Do you have any non-smoking rooms?
YES, ALL our rooms are non-smoking as well as the common areas. If you would like to smoke, feel free to do outside or on the rooftop deck. (Seasonal, weather permitting).
What are the rooms like?
Most of our rooms are small but very clean and well-appointed. Our Economy rooms have one double bed. Our Standard rooms have one Double or Queen bed, and our Superior rooms have a Queen bed. One of our Standard rooms has 2 Twin beds. We also have 3 Superior Triple rooms that have a Queen bed and an additional single bed (a day sofa that opens up for a 3rd person). A few of our Superior rooms also have a fireplace. Please look at our Amenities page to see what is included in the rooms.
How big is your hotel?
Our hotel is situated in a quaint and historical brownstone on a quiet, tree-lined street and only has 22 rooms and suites. It was built in 1850 and does not have an elevator. The most you will have to walk to your room is 3 flights up from the lobby. Our property has a very comfortable and homey atmosphere and many of our repeat customers feel like they are staying with friends or family.
Is the front desk open 24 hours a day or is it closed at night?
YES, our front desk is open 24 hours a day and there is always someone there to help you. Our hotel is secure and our front person buzzes in our guests 24 hours/day.
Do all the rooms have a private bathroom?
NO, all our Superior rooms and suites have a private bath. The Economy and Standard rooms have a sink inside the room with hot and cold water and they share a full bathroom that is always right outside the room in the hallway. Each floor has a full hallway bathroom and some floors even have a full hallway bathroom and a separate additional toilet. At the most, 2-3 rooms share a hallway bathroom. We often receive comments from guests that a bathroom was always available and always very clean whenever they used it.
Do you have a restaurant?
NO. There are dozens of restaurants right around the corner from our hotel ranging from fast-food to gourmet fine-dining, and everything in between.
How early can we check-in?
Check-in time is 3:00pm, however, if you arrive earlier and the room is available and clean and ready, we would be glad to check you in earlier. If your room is not ready early, you are welcome to leave your luggage with the front desk and go and enjoy the city. Check-out time is 12:00pm and of course you are welcome to leave your luggage with the front desk until your departure time.
Do you accept personal checks and what is your payment policy?
NO. We only accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express and cash in U.S. Dollars and Travelers checks. Full payment for the entire stay is collected at the time of check-in. Once you have checked in there will be no refund for early departure. If you are paying by credit or debit card, your card must be present at check-in along with your identification.
Is Wi-Fi included?
YES. Our guests enjoy free Wi-Fi throughout the property, both in your room and in the common areas.
Do you clean the rooms every day?
YES. Our housekeeping staff cleans each room every day, 7 days per week.
How often are the hallway bathrooms cleaned?
The hallway bathrooms are cleaned several times throughout the day.
Is the hotel centrally located?
YES. Our hotel is located in the heart of the well-known Chelsea neighborhood. It is within walking distance to many tourist attractions such as the Highline Park, as well as the Javits Convention Center and Greenwich Village. Please look at our Location page to see how close we are to everything.
Do you offer special deals or discounts?
YES, throughout the year we have several discount packages that are offered. The best offers are always during the months of January, February and March. Please check our Specials and Packages page for updated information. In most cases, our rates will always be lower here on our website than on a 3rd party booking site such as Booking.com.
We do offer a 10% discount for members of our military (identification required).
Is there an elevator?
The Colonial House Inn is a classic New York townhouse and we do not have an elevator. If you prefer to be on a lower floor, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
